Our Trip to Italy, 2014
Our trip to Italy actually started by boarding BART after we made arrangements to stay with our friends Sue & Art in Pleasanton, CA. This made the trip to the San Francisco airport somewhat easier rather then driving all the way from Jackson. We flew on the German airline,
Lufthansa, a good choice as the service was great. The only drawback was the parents with small children which sat a few rows in front of us. As you might expect it was quite a long flight but we did have a 3 hour layover in Frankfurt, Germany. As is the practice these days the airports are full of retail stores as well as many restaurant, so we managed a good lunch & I had a beer.
Later that afternoon we boarded our connecting flight and made into Fumanchino Airport in Rome after a total of 17 hours in the air. After arrival we boarded the train into Rome and fortunately I had done it before so knew where to catch it.
Once we arrived at the train station in Rome we were able to walk to the hotel which was located about 4 blocks away, the Astoria Gardens. We selected this hotel as it was close to the train station & also the subway.
| Our first dinner in Rome, a place we found very near the hotel after walking around a bit. Must have been a popular place as the place was packed not long after we arrived. |
