Vernazza Cinque Terra

Kathy enjoying the high surf!!!

High Surf on the rainy day........

After our long stay in Lucca, 6 days we hopped onto another train, actually a few as is expected as Cinque Terra is a bit difficult to get to. Another trip to Pisa, our 4th I think as it is a major transfer point for the train ( as is Florence)! Not a bad trip but took most of the day.  We arrived around 3 PM where Giocamo, the owner of the apt. found us and showed us around. Nice little place on the ground floor looking into the harbor. As it turned out we found the apt a bit on the noisy side although we did enjoy the sound of the surf at night as well as the Church bells.

The view from our room window. THe church dates from the 12th Century but has had many renovations. Amazing that they would have built the church so close to the waters edge. I imagine that before the breakwater was built the high surf would have taken quite a toll out of the lower part of the structure.  The beach, despite being rocky seemed to be a favorite of the locals as it was full most days, except the day that it rained.
Main Street Vernazza on a lazy, rainy day! Was nice as the train loads of tourist and sunbathers stayed away.
View from the other side of the harbor looking towards our apartment. It was located just right of the white canopy on the lower floor (the Gelato store). Pinkish looking 4 story building!
